Grandma Lane

yesterday was my grandma's birthday.. we went to dinner to celebrate, which was fun and delish.. anyways, anyone that knows me knows how much I love and admire my gram. she's one of my most favorite people.. I love spending time with her and making hilarious memories.

my gram is one of the strongest people I've ever known. she's been through hell and back a few different times, but she always has a positive outlook on life. she's always laughing and chatting it up whether she knows you or not.

I've heard so many stories from my gram, most of them on multiple occasions, and I love every second of it. Gram Lane is kind, funny, smart, brave, caring, talkative, strong, and the best grandma anyone could ever ask for.

that really happened... part one.

first, I'd like to take a moment to acknowledge a tragic day one year ago today. today is the anniversary of the Chardon High School shooting. I continue to pray for the victim's families, the students/teachers who had to witness that madness, and for hope that we can continue to gain strength as a school and a community.

but now, I give you some of the most random stories/memories that I've experienced in my life (random wednesday).. enjoy.

  • I went to the American Idol concert one year, Chris Daughtry, Taylor Hicks, Kellie Pickler's season, and during a quiet moment while Taylor Hicks was doing a guitar change I yelled as loud as I possible could and my family is pretty damn loud "I love you Taylor" and he stopped for a second and looked my direction. I kid you not. my mom witnessed it. Taylor Hicks heard me.
  • for any football fans... I once met stood silently in front of Ted Ginn Jr., Antonio Pittman, and Anthony Gonzalez. they played for my Ohio State Buckeyes, I stood in line to get their autographs and when it came time to receive those autographs I stood there and stared at them like some kinda freak weirdo. then when Gonzalez handed me back my shirt I said ridiculously fast "thank you" and ran off like some kinda freak weirdo. Ted Ginn Jr now plays for the SanFran49ers.. who just appeared in a little thing called the Super Bowl.
  • once in Niagara Falls, Canada, I was walking the strip with Malone and Olivia, and a lady probably in her upper 30s//early 40s stopped us in a black suv. we all thought she was going to ask for directions, when she actually asked us if we "know where to buy weed." the three of us just kinda looked at each other wondering if this was a real question, before politely saying "no, sorry." in no way, shape, or form, did we look like we'd know where to purchase weed. it was the craziest question I've ever been asked in my life.
  • my first year coaching 8th grade volleyball we went undefeated, 16-0. it was unbelievable. and one of my most prized accomplishments. it still blows my mind that we really went undefeated.
  •  every time my family has stayed in a hotel room, as far back as I can remember, we've written "redrum" on the bathroom mirror when the glass fogs up. even on our own home bathroom mirrors. if you're not familiar with redrum it's from The Shining.
  •  when I was 21 years old, my parents took me to Las Vegas. while there we spent a day at the Hoover Dam. to take a tour of the dam you had to pay for tickets. while paying for tickets the lady mentioned that children 13&under are cheaper. to which my dad pointed at me and said "yea, well, she's twelve" I was twenty-one. the lady didn't even question him, or me.
  • when I was a junior in high school I got in a car accident. t-boned a car at the end of my street on a foggy morning, and completely totaled my car. everyone was fine, but my airbag deployed which left me a little shook up if you ask me I was fine but people thought differently so off I went in an ambulance to the hospital. the cop came by to give me the deets on the crash, and he said "well, if it makes you feel any better the people you hit are illegal immigrants" yepp. I crashed into two Czechoslovakian people whos visas expired seven years prior. I basically saved the country.. but I still got a ticket.

Happy Birthday Gram!! love ya! :) more on grandma tomorrow...

first first things first.

first beverage choice:: (non-alcoholic) at restaurants I always just get water.. but anywhere else I'd say iced tea, specifically crystal light iced tea shits good.. unless it's morning time, then milk or oj. (alcoholic) three olives vodka and lemonade, or rum and diet coke, or a Mikes Hard.

first breakfast choice:: at home, either- leftovers, cereal, or toast. at a restaurant, almost always an omelet especially if it's at ihop, they have the best omelets.

first dessert choice:: something chocolate. but I'll go with, either ice cream cake or a freshly baked chocolate chip cookie. yum!

Weekend Update - Oscars 500

Friday::
worked. then watched Surviving Christmas which was good, predictable, but good. and funny too. and Ben Affleck is in it, need I say more? after that I watched One For The Money which was also a pretty good movie. I'd recommend both of them. a little Duck Dynasty and I called it a night.

Saturday::
worked. which was kinda cray-cray.. not the most cray but pretty cray. afterwards it was home for a night in. I watched Taken 2 with dad and mom. then caught up on some dvr-ed shows, while playing my parents in Draw Something.
oh, then I was still wide awake at 1:20am so I hopped on instagram and somehow came across a Zac Efron page, and spent 15min no joke, a whole 15min looking at pictures of Zac. it didn't seem like that long, but unless my clock decided to go faster than normal that's how long it was.

Sunday::
Daytona 500. I'm not typically one to watch cars drive in a circle, but I had to support Danica Patrick. plus, it was an excuse to enjoy a Mike's Hard.

The Oscars...
~SETH MACFARLANE?! please and thank you. I thought he did one hell of a job. simply, hilarious.
~did anyone else notice how Anne Hathaway's husband looks like Ryan Gosling?
~JLaw falling, that was super awk, cause it wasn't just a small trip it was a huge down for the count.
~I haven't seen Argo but I will eventually.. actually the only movie I saw was Zero Dark Thirty -which was amazing.. but I'm glad Benny Affleck won.
~I think acceptance speeches should only be 15 seconds long, at the max. no one wants to listen to them list off every name.. we don't know who they are and we don't care who they are. say a couple people and then just say "and thanks to everyone else" and be done with it.
~I'm just going to repeat myself, Seth MacFarlane was hilarious.

spring cleaning

I've attempted to clean up // spice up the blog a bit. which is why things are different, but still basically the same.

it's a work in progress, but this is where I'm at so far. and maybe it'll stay like this. maybe it won't. who knows.. I don't even know..

but I do know it's Friday!!

I'd do a High Five For Friday, but nothing all that exciting has happened that I need to high five about. and I haven't finished any books to participate in Book Club Friday. and there's no creative juices flowing.

so, you're stuck with these...

I always have to re-ask what their name is.
LukeB.
and maybe a little by your taste in music too.. but mostly sports.
sounds like a good dinner to me.
I just love this.

just another Thursday...

it's okay that...

...I turned on Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives too late and missed the restaurant he visited in Ohio.
...it's snowing.
...I've had a sinus issue going on since Friday.
...I can't have pop, chips, or ice cream until Easter.
...my dad is quite possibly the worst draw something drawer ever. I'll share some of his artistic work one of these days.
...I want to go to a southern state so I can eat a seafood po' boy. or find a place up here that sells them.
...I seriously just googled po' boys in Ohio, but there are none. well one in Columbus.. which is a 3hr drive.
...I think Jerry Seinfeld is hilarious.
...my mouth waters every time I watch Food Network.
...I haven't really been reading the book I started to read.
...I got an instagram, casslane10 -follow meh.
...that I just said meh.
...my Flyers won!
...I really have no idea what to title this post. whatever it is, I'm sure isn't thrilling.

The Amazing Spider-Man
pretty good, I suppose. I didn't think it was as good as Tobey Maguire's version. if you like spiderman I'd recommend it.. otherwise, don't waste your time.

Safe Haven
I've said it before on here, Safe Haven was fantastic. brilliant. amazing. go see it, seriously, you will not be disappointed. it's that good. plus, Josh Duhamel is in it. go see it. now. go.

an Ohio tour

yesterday myself, dad, and gram went to the ever popular West Side Market, located in Cleveland, Ohio.

it was my first time there, and it was so much fun.. I can't wait to go back.

we started off visiting the produce along side the market. dad bought a few things: hot peppers, potatoes, bananas.. gram bought a few things herself.

then it was into the actual WSM. since it was closed for a month or so from fire damage, and yesterday was the first day opened again, the place was packed. but so neat. we got even more goodies inside.. dad bought various meats to bring home bacon, chicken wings, eye round, sausages, etc, and we all sampled some kinda bbq beef stick that's what my dad told the man, meaning he wanted a smokie but what the guy gave us were not beef smokies but it was delish. seriously so good. gram bought chicken on a stick, which was also good.

we then made our way out of the market to eat lunch. we walked down to a restaurant that we heard buys all their ingredients from the WSM, but unfortunately it was closed. we ended up at a tiny coffee shop, and enjoyed a cup of coffee with Baileys unbelievably good! we ventured into the Great Lakes Brewery just to take a quick peek, and snap some pictures to send to friends/family. then it was to finally eat lunch. after the first lunch failure, we heard Nate's Deli was a great place to go, so we figured we'd try that. Nate's was good, we all got some type of corned-beef sandwich. and it was very fast food-delivery I'm talking like 5min. at a sit-down restaurant that was jam packed.

overall, a very fun day spent with my dad and gram. it was a good first experience there and, like I said, I will definitely be going back. next time I'm trying the made-to-order crepes.. they looked ridic good.

Weekend Update - 90years

Thursday::
saw Safe Haven, which was such an awesome movie.. go see it. seriously. and Ashley gave me my birthday present my birthday is in November, but she was in Hawaii still and then just never had given me it yet after she got home but anyways, she gave me $23 cause I turned 23 and this sweet ass cup...

it's a serious party cup... and I love it.
Friday::
finally signed up for an instagram account.. follow me casslane10 and you'll get to see pictures like the one above. exciting stuff people. then I worked. and my friend, Hannah-The-Baker, came into town for a bit. she came into Beans and we chatted, it was nice to catch up and see her again. I didn't really do much the rest of the night. my nose was stuffy all day.. boo.

Saturday::
unfortunately, I attended a funeral. Melissa's great grandma, whom was one of the nicest people I have ever had the pleasure of meeting, passed away. the service was touching, and the luncheon afterwards was very well done. she's in a much better place now, I'm sure. Rest In Peace Grandma Dolly. I feel so blessed to have met you, and I'll always remember the fun bingo nights we had.

before Saturday night which was another girls night out.. I watched my Philly Flyers lose.
Schenner.
the night out was really fun, but holy cow did we get hit with snow overnight. the ride home was a slow and steady one.. and then I just crashed at Ashley's so I wouldn't have to drive myself in the blizzard. at 7am I woke up and left her house, and the roads still weren't that great.

Sunday::
went to a 90th birthday party. and drank sangria. yum! then watched my parents play 'draw something' it went like this...
 that is how my dad drew "rose." you're welcome.

Instagram

I finally jumped on the Instagram train.. thanks to Ashley.

y'all should follow me: casslane10

and then I can follow you.

k.thanks.bye.

fry-day.

I haven't done one-a these in a while...

one:: Safe Haven is a fantastic movie. go see it.
two:: festivities. such as, Fat Tuesday, Lent, Valentine's Day.
three:: momma and dad gave me a hundo for Valentine's Day.. that's $100. I love my parents.
four:: Spring Training started.. which means spring, and baseball, are right around the corner.
five:: I've been working out and eating healthier. I even ordered a salad at dinner last night. a freaking salad people!

Kiss Me by Jillian Dodd

goodreads:: I've always written scripts for my perfect life. But no way could I have ever scripted this. My life is so far from perfect, it’s not even funny. All because of a stalker. I’m at a boarding school where I have to lie about who I am. I can’t see my family. I’m tutoring a Hottie God that tortures me with his smile. The most popular girl already hates me. But there’s this boy. This hot, sweet, sexy boy. So I’m going to stop trying to script my life and just live it. Because who knows how long I have left.

me:: very good. just as good as the first book, Stalk Me. quick easy read. the characters drag you in and you won't want to stop reading. I really enjoyed it.

Flicker by Melanie Hooyenga

goodreads:: Biz is a perfectly normal teenager except for one minor detail: she uses sunlight to jump back to yesterday. She takes advantage of flickering by retaking Trig tests, fixing fights with her boyfriend (or reliving the making up), and repeating pretty much anything that could be done better. Trouble is, flickering makes her head explode from the inside. Or feel like it anyway. No one knows about her freakish ability and she’s content to keep it that way. Guys don’t stick around because she refuses to let them in, but all that changes when Cameron, her best friend, starts looking oh-so-yummy. Suddenly she’s noticing his biceps, his smile, and the cute way his eyes crinkle when he—gah! This is her friend! But the butterflies come to a screeching halt when little girls start disappearing, then take a nosedive when the police link the kidnappings to Cameron’s sister, who vanished years earlier. As the police grasp for clues, Biz photographs a strange man lurking in the shadows and realizes that her flickering can help more than just herself.

me:: I read this book by chance.. and I'm glad I read it. I thought it was great, although somewhat predictable, the ending was awesome. again, another quick easy read. first one in a series.

Happy Friday!!

I'm a survivor.. I'm not gon give up..

Survivor started last night!! I love Survivor. I, sadly, have not missed a season, in all 26 seasons. should I be embarrassed by that?

anyways, it's a Fan vs Favorites season, but no, Boston Rob is not on it. but I strongly believe that he is the best player to have ever played the game.

who takes 2nd place, with only losing to his now wife, comes back for another season and wins the whole damn thing?
this guy...

best. player. ever.
there's a crazy cast of favorites.. should definitely be a great season.

on a different note, Melissa brought this greatness to my attention. if you're bored, if you need a laugh, or if you just want to feel better about yourself, go to Craigslist and read the 'Missed Connections' you will not be disappointed. it is hilarious. I was in tears laughing at these people. I'm sorry but who is seriously going to read those, besides people like me who just want to laugh?! no one, that's who. unless they're equally as weird. in which case, God bless.

oh, and Happy Valentine's Day! I believe I'm going to see Safe Haven with Ashley, and possibly Erin, tonight. girls night out - hoorah!

enough is enough

I feel like I'm going to explode.

I ate ice cream, drank pop, and had some chips, along with Burger King last night. I don't really eat much fast food, subway every here and there but that's pretty much it. but in celebration of Fat Tuesday I had BK. it was delish. but that fills my need of fast food for a while.

I participate in Lent every year, and every year I give up pop, chips, and ice cream. Lent is more of a way to jump start healthy eating. so last night I enjoyed my last bowl of ice cream, drank my last pop, and ate my last few chips until Easter.

vanilla with choco syrup
it was all really good.
but enough is really enough. it's time to eat healthy again. more protein shakes, more yogurt, healthier breakfasts, more veggies and fruit, more exercise.

starting today.

I'm hoping to keep track of my progress on here.. if I remember.. so we'll see how that goes. but for now I'm off to classes then home for a work out. here we go!

quick sidenote:: my boy Brayden Schenn scored a goal last night to help my Flyers to victory! nice job 10!

laughing is my favorite

I lovelovelove to laugh.. who doesn't?

Mom and I were cracking up at these last night, so of course I have to share...

I laughed ridiculously hard at this one.

then I found these...

I'm seriously considering buying this.

alright, now let's talk about the elephant in the room. this just might be the craziest year of college hoops I've ever seen. #3 Mich got upset, #5 Kansas got upset, #11 Louisville lost to #25 Notre Dame in 5 overtimes, #1 Indiana got upset but then beat my Buckeyes. it's madness, people, madness.. and it's not even March yet.

annndddd... pitchers/catchers report to Spring Training today, woot woot!! bring on the summmaaa, and GO TRIBE!

in other news, it's Fat Tuesday bitches! I plan on eating a lot today. tomorrow I'm getting back on track with eating healthy. for Lent I'm giving up pop, chips, and ice cream. I do it every year.. so I know I can do it.. the hardest part is probably the pop cause thats my go-to vodka mixer. for 40 days I have to get creative and use Gatorade or juice or something.. that's usually the hardest part.. especially on St. Patrick's Day. this year, for St. Patty's Day only, I might allow myself rum&dietcoke.. just because I've been on a kick of it lately, it's so damn good. but we'll see. maybe, maybe not. who knows.

do you participate in Lent? if so, what are you giving up?
and good luck to you, if you are sacrificing something.
