my idosyncrasies... part two.

(read part one here)

I play with straw wrappers. more specifically, I fold straw wrappers in half and then in half again. every. single. time. I. encounter. a. straw. wrapper. I didn't even realize I was doing it at first, it just was happening, and then someone pointed it out to me. after I fold the wrapper twice I'll sit there and play with it until the food comes or I move it out of my reach.

I wash my hands in the shower. it's the first thing I do. I didn't really think of it was odd until I mentioned it over here. but really, how strange is it? I don't want dirty, unclean hands going into my hair that I'm trying to clean.

I love banana flavoring but not actual bananas. totally effed, I know. for whatever reason I love banana flavored things, such as:: banana cream pie, strawberry-banana yogurt//smoothies//margaritas, banana bread, banana chocolate chip muffins, etcetc. but when it comes to eating an actual banana.. I'm like Ron Swanson.

I love peanuts on my ice cream. give me a bowl of ice cream, I want peanuts. I mean I can eat ice cream without peanuts, but if they are available I will certainly be putting them on.

I have extremely sensitive taste buds. when it comes to foods I dislike I know immediately if it's in a dish. for example.. lime is a big one for me, I absolutely hate the taste of lime, and if it's involved in a meal at all I will taste it first bite. recently I also tasted beer in steak, I had no idea my mom marinated the steaks in beer and other ingredients.. it took me like 3 bites and I knew beer was involved. my dad thought I was cray.

I laugh, a lot. I just laugh a lot. if I don't know how to respond to something, I laugh. if I feel uncomfortable or awkward, I laugh. if I find something funny, obvi, I laugh. I laugh at other people, I laugh at myself, I laugh at people laughing.

I'm not a big fan of cheese. it's not that I don't like it. it's just that I prefer not to have it. I never add it to sandwiches or burgers, if it's already on that's fine but if I have the option I'd rather not have it. thanks, but no thanks.

ps:: birthday shoutout to my precious pup Penny Lane, love and miss you girl! and also, my cousin Tallon who turns 6 today! :)

BE FIT.

first I want to say I'm so happy that the girls from Cleveland survived their kidnappings and are finally free after all those years. also, to Charles Ramsey the guy who helped save the girls.. may God Bless you. not only did you help save them, but you're hilarious. God Bless you all.

(Cleveland at it's finest!)

I've been trying really hard to workout and eat healthier. it's been going great so far! I'm down 2 pounds at the end of the first week, woot woot!

the other day for lunch I made a hella delicious wrap.

I sauteed some fresh spinach with a little garlic, warmed up a little turkey, sliced up a tomato, and warmed the whole-wheat tortilla wrap. piled it all on the wrap, sprinkled a few crispy onions, and drizzled on a little red wine vinaigrette.

it was seriously phenom. and it was healthier than eating chicken nuggets.
plus, I've been eating more veggies and trying to eat more fruit. even though the fruit is kinda failing.. since I don't like much of it.

yesterday for breakfast I made a protein shake. it consisted of a scoop of protein powder, a banana, a little peanut butter, and some milk. it was pretty damn good.
lunch time I made a tomato//pepper open-faced thing. I just toasted a piece of bread. topped it with two slices of tomato, and a few 'hot' peppers (homegrown by friends of ours, they're technically hot peppers, but they're not hot in my opinion.. but they are very tasty) and then drizzled a little red wine vinaigrette over the top, and enjoyed it. I've been on a tomato kick lately. I also had some green beans, too. yum!

thanks to Sarah for the open-faced sandwich tip!

workout wise, every day I've been trying to do push-ups, sit-ups, squats, and calf raises. plus some days I run my street, or do a workout dvd, or the elliptical. it's been going well so far, except I got scorched with sunburn from running my street. that wasn't very fun.
oh, and I heard about this workout app, which I already love! It's called Daily Workout. I forget what blog I read about it on, but thank you to that person!

here's to another week of getting fit!
anyone have any tips//tricks that helps motivate them? or a good, easy, healthy recipe?

one more thing...

I'm so excited to announce today that I've been voted into the LEEIB Hall of Fame!! Nathan gave me the nomination (again, thank you!!!) and then LEEIB readers voted me to be inducted.. how cool is that?! thank you thank you thank you!! :)

Happy Birthday, Blog! (giveaway)

today my blog turns one!

a year ago my sil confided in me that she had a blog. at first I didn't understand why she was so shy about it, why not tell everyone? then I decided to join blog land myself, since I was about to undergo jaw surgery, and basically have nothing to do all day every day for about two months. it wasn't until I actually had my own blog that I completely understood why she didn't tell many of her friends and family. blogging is an outlet, a place to express yourself and document what's happening in your life, a place where you can vent about the good and the bad. a place to connect with others around the world whom normally you wouldn't have the pleasure of interacting with. all while not having to worry about what your real life friends think, and not having them question the things you post. I love the freedom!

a few weeks ago, just shy of the one year mark, I changed my blog around a bit. I changed it from History in the Making to On the Rocks. I decided that History in the Making was too long, and I couldn't really do anything with it- as in, designing a header, nothing really fit. I couldn't make anything cool. so I switched it up. plus, I like to enjoy a drink on the rocks.. who doesn't?

I want to thank everyone who follows my blog, comments, sponsors, interacts, etcetc. I love the friends I've made though blogging, and I hope to only gain more year after year.

as a way to say "y'all are phenom" I wanted to do a giveaway.

but since it's my first one ever, it's not the best giveaway.. I'm not handing out a million dollars, but I do have $10 to Target, some Bath&Body Works goodies, a cute picture frame and cute note pad plus whatever else I come across in the next few weeks that I feel like adding.

enter the giveaway below.

in other news, at work we have "drinks of the month" and since my blog is now called On The Rocks, I thought it might be a fun idea to have my own drinks of the month.
I give you the first OnTheRocks drink of the month::

for May, I give you a low-cal since we're all trying to get ready for summer delicious drink.

Skinny-Girl Sangria

it's delicious, low cal, and ready to go. just buy the bottle, or two or three. crack it open. grab yourself a wine glass, or mason jar or solo cup. throw in a few ice cubes. pour in the skinnygirl sangria. and enjoy! super easy. super delish. and low-cal. that's what I call a win-win-win.

a Rafflecopter giveaway

sports weekly

I decided I'm going to do a weekly or semi-weekly or whatever I feel like really.. sports update on my teams.

my Tribe is currently 8-10, 4th in the AL Central. they're usually doing worse, so as for now I'm content. I wish we were 1st in the division so that's something to work on. but the season is still young, we have plenty of time to come back. Swishy, and Reynolds are making me proud. however, my main man, Asdrubal Cabrera is letting me down- you better step your game up boy! I'm glad we have the JKkid back in the line-up now. let's go boys!

oh, my Brownies. how they depress me every year. I know football hasn't started yet, but the NFL Draft begins tomorrow so I wanted to include them. I really really really hope that we don't blow this draft like the others. we need to make smart choices. especially since we already booted our two best players- don't even get me started on that topic. agh! who would've thought the best player on a team would be the kicker.. Phil Dawson, I will forever miss you. Browns, DON'T EFF THIS UP! they'll eff it up.

this past season I got really into hockey, and I'm bummed I didn't watch it much before cause it's FREAKIN AWESOME! unfortunately the Flyers didn't make the playoffs this year. they're 21-22 and 5th in the Atlantic. not the best, but at least they're close to .500. I hope they have a better season next year, since this one is almost over.

and do I even need to talk about the Cavs re-hiring a coach that sucks? please don't make me. I don't think I can handle it.

ps, I'm ridic excited to say that this summer we're going on vacation to Nashville, TN! as a huge country music fan, I cannot wait to check out all this city has to offer. that's the good news, the extremely good news is (back story:: I love seafood and have been obsessed with poboy sandwiches since I had one in Vegas last summer, but I have no where to eat them that's less than 3 hours away) well guess what, Nashville, TN has po'boy sandwiches!! plus, one of the places was featured on Diners Drive-ins and Dives - double whammy! I'M SO FREAKING EXCITED!!!!

favs... part one.

here are a few of my favorite things...

listening to country music on a warm summer night next to a bonfire. there's just something about relaxing next to a fire with the graceful sound of country music.. sipping on a chilled Mikes Hard Lemonade.

athletic shorts. they're just so damn comfy.. I love 'em.

laughing. I love laughing. I love making people laugh. I love people who make me laugh. it can cure anything, it instantly makes me feel better.

sporting events. Ohio State games, Indians games, Monsters games, Browns games, Cavs games, Flyers games, I love cheering on all my boys.

clean sheets on a made bed. there is not much better than climbing into bed with freshly clean sheets, and the bed all made-up nicely. it's a fantastic feeling. one of the best ever, if I do say so myself.

vodka and lemonade//rum and coke//mikes hard lemonade. definitely my go to bevs.. nothing cures a bad day, or a good day for that matter, better than Miss Three Olives or Mr Captain Morgan.

my family//friends. but that's a given.

Christmas//St Patrick's Day//Halloween. I love all holidays, but these three are extra special. Christmas - I love the spirit. St Paddy's - I'm Irish. Halloween - I love horror movies.

spicy food. I don't think anyone would believe I made a list of my favorite things without including something about spicy food. the hotter the better. I put hot sauce and//or cayenne pepper on almost everything.

movies. any kind really, but mainly... comedy, horror//thriller, romantic comedies, and Disney movies.

my idiosyncrasies.. part one.

I woke up bright & early.. and there's nothing bright about it. I opened Beans Coffee this morning, and I get to do it again tomorrow. that's a 4:45am alarm people. 4:45am.

just a few things that make me a tad weird...

I down any beverage in my possession. I for some reason tend to not sip anything. I will either refrain from drinking it if I'm trying to save it, or I will completely down it. basically, once I start drinking something I finish it.. I can't just let it sit in front of me.

I have little to no patience. when I want something, or like the idea of something, I want it immediately. the longer I have to wait the more my interest fades away, and eventually I won't care anymore.

I go to Google for everything. literally everything. if I'm interested in something, google it. want to know an answer to a question, google it. don't know how to spell a word, google it. just want to kill time, google something. see a sweet restaurant on Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives, google all the info. trying to go to youtube, google it. I love Google.

If I like a song I listen to it on repeat. all day, every day. until a new song comes along and then I obsess over that one. currently I'm obsessed with Walk Off Hits, a brand new band who can totally rock -check 'em out, seriously, you'll love them too.. plus I know, or semi-know, the singer.

I never eat the crust of pizza. never. pizza crust is, quite frankly, disgusting. I have no desire to eat crust ever. it doesn't matter if it's thin crust, deep dish, stuffed, thick, seasoned, whatever, it's gross.

I can't make a '3' with my right hand. ya know, when you take the thumb and hold down the pinky to represent the number three.. can't do it with my right hand. well, I can, but it hurts really bad and looks extremely weird. but I can make a fabulous three with my left hand.

I hate when my food touches. I seriously get anxiety over it. if the food is touching I immediately have to separate it. If I'm plating my own food obvs I've created a pretty good system at keeping everything separated.. but if I'm at a restaurant where I can't control how the food is placed, as soon as I receive said meal I reconstruct it to fit properly.

I'm extremely ocd when it comes to stirring mixed drinks. I have to stir it before I take a sip, every time. it's just something I have to do. I'm constantly stirring my alcoholic beverages. it's like a weird tick. I'm not sure how it started, but I just always have to stir.

that really happened... part one.

first, I'd like to take a moment to acknowledge a tragic day one year ago today. today is the anniversary of the Chardon High School shooting. I continue to pray for the victim's families, the students/teachers who had to witness that madness, and for hope that we can continue to gain strength as a school and a community.

but now, I give you some of the most random stories/memories that I've experienced in my life (random wednesday).. enjoy.

  • I went to the American Idol concert one year, Chris Daughtry, Taylor Hicks, Kellie Pickler's season, and during a quiet moment while Taylor Hicks was doing a guitar change I yelled as loud as I possible could and my family is pretty damn loud "I love you Taylor" and he stopped for a second and looked my direction. I kid you not. my mom witnessed it. Taylor Hicks heard me.
  • for any football fans... I once met stood silently in front of Ted Ginn Jr., Antonio Pittman, and Anthony Gonzalez. they played for my Ohio State Buckeyes, I stood in line to get their autographs and when it came time to receive those autographs I stood there and stared at them like some kinda freak weirdo. then when Gonzalez handed me back my shirt I said ridiculously fast "thank you" and ran off like some kinda freak weirdo. Ted Ginn Jr now plays for the SanFran49ers.. who just appeared in a little thing called the Super Bowl.
  • once in Niagara Falls, Canada, I was walking the strip with Malone and Olivia, and a lady probably in her upper 30s//early 40s stopped us in a black suv. we all thought she was going to ask for directions, when she actually asked us if we "know where to buy weed." the three of us just kinda looked at each other wondering if this was a real question, before politely saying "no, sorry." in no way, shape, or form, did we look like we'd know where to purchase weed. it was the craziest question I've ever been asked in my life.
  • my first year coaching 8th grade volleyball we went undefeated, 16-0. it was unbelievable. and one of my most prized accomplishments. it still blows my mind that we really went undefeated.
  •  every time my family has stayed in a hotel room, as far back as I can remember, we've written "redrum" on the bathroom mirror when the glass fogs up. even on our own home bathroom mirrors. if you're not familiar with redrum it's from The Shining.
  •  when I was 21 years old, my parents took me to Las Vegas. while there we spent a day at the Hoover Dam. to take a tour of the dam you had to pay for tickets. while paying for tickets the lady mentioned that children 13&under are cheaper. to which my dad pointed at me and said "yea, well, she's twelve" I was twenty-one. the lady didn't even question him, or me.
  • when I was a junior in high school I got in a car accident. t-boned a car at the end of my street on a foggy morning, and completely totaled my car. everyone was fine, but my airbag deployed which left me a little shook up if you ask me I was fine but people thought differently so off I went in an ambulance to the hospital. the cop came by to give me the deets on the crash, and he said "well, if it makes you feel any better the people you hit are illegal immigrants" yepp. I crashed into two Czechoslovakian people whos visas expired seven years prior. I basically saved the country.. but I still got a ticket.

Happy Birthday Gram!! love ya! :) more on grandma tomorrow...

life is good
